A brand new study from the American Cancer Society says that even in case you’re lively, increasing the period of time you spend standing every day can further reduce your possibilities of obesity.
Researchers studied greater than 7,000 patients between the ages of 20 and 79 and examined the connection between the period of time they stood and their risk of obesity. They checked out specific measurements — similar to body mass index, waist circumference, and body fat percentage — and metabolic syndrome, a cluster of things that increase the danger of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
Participants had no history of cardiovascular problems, stroke or cancer. Each person filled out questionnaires about how much time they stood during every day activities, similar to work and household chores. This information was linked to how long and the way often they exercised, similar to walking, running, swimming and cycling.
The results showed that men who met the essential guidelines for physical activity and stood one-quarter and three-quarters of the time were 57% and 64% less more likely to be obese, respectively. While this research doesn’t prove that standing is the fundamental explanation for weight reduction, it does appear that sitting less and standing at any time when possible may also help improve your health.
