Eye experts say the TikTok hype about castor oil is dangerous

The hashtag #Castoroilforvision has garnered 3.7 million views on TikTok. Videos show people rubbing the oil on their eyelids and around their eyes, claiming to enhance vision, reminiscent of eliminating the necessity for glasses, curing glaucoma, or removing floaters, that are spots or streaky appearances within the visual view.

“We simply cannot make a recommendation for something for which there is very little evidence,” said Ashley Brissette, MD, MSc, spokeswoman for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and assistant professor at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York. NBC News“Castor oil is not a cure-all. If you have problems with your eyes, you need to see an ophthalmologist.”
