September 27, 2023 – About 250,000 cycles of Pfizer's anti-COVID pills can be administered weekly, CEO Albert Bourla said this week.
The oral antiviral drug Paxlovid is distributed free by the US government, which has purchased about 24 million courses. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, about 15 million courses have been distributed to this point, Reuters reported.
Bourla said it continues to be not clear when Paxlovid will receive approval on the market within the U.S. business market. Reuters reported.
He said the corporate was “ready to deliver its COVID-19 vaccines to the commercial market with a smooth transition,” Reuters reported.
“There are already enough products that have already been manufactured and we continue to produce,” Bourla said. “We are very confident that the market will be very well supplied.”
Paxlovid is given shortly after symptoms begin for five days and treats adults at higher risk of being hospitalized or dying from COVID-19.
Reuters reported “hiccups” within the rollout of newly updated COVID-19 vaccines, with some people saying pharmacies had told them they didn't have shots.
Bourla spoke on the Cantor Fitzgerald Annual Healthcare Conference.
