Strengthening your core offers big payoffs, including athletic success, a robust lower back, independent living, and all-around fitness. Sounds great, right?
However, finding the time and can to do these exercises is probably not easy. But experts say you are more more likely to succeed should you set goals. Smart – i.e., specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based. So while you set a goal to your core workout, be certain that it goes through. Smart Test:
Q: Set loads specific Purpose I’ll do a set of 4 different exercises on Monday and Wednesday. or, This week, I’ll do a set of front planks on desk plus chair stands on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
M: Find a method to Measurement Development I’ll log my efforts on my calendar each day, checking off the times I hit my goal.
A: Make sure it’s. Achievable. Make sure you’re physically capable of accomplish your goal safely. If not, aim for a smaller goal initially: I plan to master 4 easy exercises, then move on to their more difficult counterparts.
R: Make sure it’s. Realistic. Choose the change you suspect you’ll be able to make. Focus on certainty: On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 equals no confidence and 10 equals 100% certainty, your goal should fall within the 7-10 zone. If not, cut it right into a manageable size. For example, I’ll do a front plank on the table 3 times this week. or, Each week, I’ll add five seconds to the time I’m doing a front plank on the table.
T: Set time Commitments First, select a date and time to start out. Starting today, I’ll take 10 minutes out of my lunch hour every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to do an office workout. or, Starting today, I’ll do two stretches after my morning shower, when my muscles are warm, each day for every week.
Second, select a weekly check-in time to see should you’re meeting goals or hitting obstacles. I’ll check my calendar every Friday evening and judge if I should make any changes to my routine. Outside deadlines will be really helpful here, too: signing up for tennis lessons or planning a beach vacation can get you ready to start out your core program.
